The 2024 NBA All-Star Weekend promises to be a slam dunk of innovation, thanks to a new state-of-the-art video LED basketball court. The floor will be used for the Ruffles NBA All-Star Celebrity Game as well as the skills Saturday night skills competitions, including the AT&T Slam Dunk, STARRY 3-Point Contest and Kia Skills Challenge. The LED court is one of the biggest LED video floors and was developed by ASB GlassFloor and will debut at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis from February 16-18.
Game-Changing Technology: How the LED Basketball Court Will Be Used
Underneath the glass LED basketball court is a dynamic video screen comprised of multiple LED panels with a 4.8mm pixel pitch to create stunning visuals for an interactive fan experience. The LED video display will morph into multiple variations to match each event, changing colors and designs to match each event. The floor will also show videos and replays, real-time game stats, animations following big plays and player-tracking animations based on location.
During timeouts and downtime, the floor can also provide interactive games for fans. In addition to this, the floor can also be a static image of a basketball court, displaying the lines and markings of the 94′ x 50′ NBA court.
Designed with Athletes in Mind
The LED video floor is a high-performance sports floor made from specialty safety glass and a double spring substructure, making it about 2.5x more elastic than commonly used hardwood boards. This, along with superior grip from by ceramic dots on the glass layer, creates a safe floor for impacts and reduces strain on joints.
