New York City Installation Art Using Silicone Edge Graphics and Duratran Lightboxes

Jibade-Khalil Huffman, is a talented artist and poet from Detroit, MI who is showcasing his collection of work titled Total Running Time at Magenta Plains, an art gallery located in New York City. This is his first solo exhibition at the gallery and the installation art will be on display from now until December 16th, 2020. Huffman’s work fuses video projections, LED light boxes, and multimedia printed photo collages on layered duratran film transparencies and backlit SEG fabric. Jibade-Khalil Huffman reached out to us with a specific visual intent and we worked with him on how our products could best be used in accomplishing his vision. Below is a list of the graphics we produced for his interactive installation art in NYC.

Installation Art Materials

Materials such as Duratran Transparency Film and Backlit SEG Fabric are commonly found in retail environments but can also be utilized in fine art applications.

Duratrans are printed on an 8 mil, polyester transparency film and have an ultra-absorbent coating to produce the best black density and color vibrancy.

Backlit SEG fabric printed on a heavier fabric material allowing for proper light diffusion. This product also calls for higher ink saturation so that the image will appear darker until installed in an SEG Lightbox. SEG, short for Silicone Edge Graphics, is printed fabric with a thin silicone beading sewn around the edges is inserted into an edgeless framing system.

Working with 40 Visuals has been wonderful. Though I know their focus is primarily on commercial projects, everyone immediately understood where I was coming from and was immediately on board in helping me realize the vision of my recent shows. I've already recommended them to a few colleagues and peers and will continue to work with them on large scale museum projects and gallery exhibitions alike down the line.
