What You Need to Know

Etsy launched a beta app inside ChatGPT that lets shoppers search and compare Etsy listings without ever leaving the chat interface. To use it, you tag @Etsy in a conversation and type a prompt describing what you’re looking for, like a Mother’s Day gift under $100 for someone who loves gardening. ChatGPT then pulls relevant Etsy listings you can browse, compare and click through to the Etsy site to learn more. The integration builds on Etsy’s earlier work as the first live partner for ChatGPT Instant Checkout, which showed that ChatGPT works well as a discovery channel and that shoppers often visit Etsy from chats before buying.

Etsy is also testing a conversational search experience directly on its own platform to help shoppers find gifts. The company says conversational search fits Etsy well because its marketplace is full of unique, one-of-a-kind items listed by real people that don’t map to traditional product catalogs or SKUs. Rather than matching keywords, AI can connect how sellers describe their items with what buyers are actually trying to find. Etsy says it plans to keep showing up in emerging AI channels, learning from real usage and improving how sellers get discovered.
