Retail store design and visual merchandising is very important for retail store success. Effective signage and store layout that is consistent with the brand makes shoppers feel immersed in the brand. This helps customers find their way around the store and showcases products in the best possible way. There are many different types of signage in retail stores, from window displays to wall-mounted signage and more, and Superare is a great example of using silicone edge graphics (SEG) to complement their store design and make their retail signage ideas come to life.

About Superare Fight Goods

Superare is a combat sports gear and apparel brand specializing in products for boxing, MMA, Muay Thai and Brazilian jiu-jitsu. The brand launched in 2011 out of a love for the sport and has grown into a leader in the industry. Superare has retail locations in New York City and Los Angeles along with an online shop. Its new location in New York City opened in November 2023 with a clean, minimalist store design and three SEG lightbox displays.

Using Backlit SEG Displays for Retail

Inside the Superare NYC location, you’ll find a 12′ x 3′ wall-mounted backlit SEG fabric lightbox displayed at eye level, with footwear and other gear neatly displayed on shelves below it. At the front of the store near the T-shirt section is another wall-mounted SEG backlit display measuring 4′ x 6.5′. Just on the other side of the floor-to-ceiling glass storefront windows is a double-sided hanging 40″ x 50″ backlit SEG window display. The artwork features lifestyle images of their gear and apparel, while the backlighting makes the artwork come to life. The displays, combined with the store’s contrasting white walls and dark brown wood-textured flooring, complete the store design to give shoppers a high-end experience.

What is SEG Fabric?

SEG, short for silicone edge graphics, is a type of printed fabric graphic with a thin silicone beading sewn around the edges of the fabric. The silicone beading is inserted into a recessed groove in an SEG frame or SEG light box, resulting in a sleek, frameless appearance that is both modern and aesthetically pleasing. The backlit option of SEG lightboxes makes the graphics vibrant and is a popular choice for retailers seeking to create a visually impactful shopping environment. The flexibility and ease of updating SEG graphics (no tools or expertise required) also make it an extremely popular choice for many places, including retail stores, airports and trade shows. Because SEG frames can be broken down and the fabric can be rolled, SEG is much more cost-effective to ship than rigid displays of the same size, saving brands money on shipping costs.

Signage for Sports and Fitness Retailers

Signage for sports and fitness retailers plays a crucial role in not only guiding customers but also in amplifying the energetic and dynamic atmosphere these stores aim to convey. Effective signage, such as high-impact visuals or inspirational messages, can significantly improve the shopping experience by creating an environment that resonates with the health and wellness goals of customers. These retailers often use bold and vibrant displays, incorporating action-packed imagery or motivational slogans, to evoke a sense of movement and energy. Digital signage is increasingly popular, offering the flexibility to update content regularly and engage customers with interactive elements. Well-designed signage in sports and fitness retail not only informs and directs but also inspires and motivates, reflecting the spirit of the industry.

Next Steps

Superare’s use of backlit SEG graphics in their New York City retail store is a prime example of how effective and brand-consistent signage can transform a retail environment. This strategic integration of SEG fabric signage not only showcases their products in the best light but also blends seamlessly with the store’s minimalist design, creating a memorable and high-end shopping experience for customers. Superare’s retail store design illustrates the powerful impact of well-thought-out retail signage and store layout, setting a benchmark for others in the sports and fitness retail industry.
