What You Need to Know

Foot Locker and Nike opened The Crenshaw Rec by Foot Locker on August 22 at 3222 W Slauson Ave. in South Los Angeles, a retail space built with and for the Crenshaw community. Developed in partnership with Nike, Jordan Brand and Converse, the store functions as both a shopping destination and a neighborhood hub. It features an equipment room, open gym, creative workspaces, hyper-local product collections and a resource center that will host year-round programming including music academies, run clubs and community events. Exclusive merchandise at launch includes a Crenshaw High School x Nike Team Shop collection and a capsule by LA-based designer Gavin Mathieu of Supervsn Studios.

The store draws directly on the neighborhood’s history and the legacy of Nipsey Hussle. Nipsey Hussle’s Marathon Brand is a launch partner, and the location sits alongside Dorset Village, a shopping center where Hussle sold mixtapes and that helped shape his early years. Local vendors, artists and community leaders were involved in shaping the store’s identity, product assortment and programming from the start. The Crenshaw Rec is the first store of its kind from Foot Locker and Nike, with both brands saying they plan to bring similar community-driven experiences to other neighborhoods in the future.
