What You Need to Know
Urban Outfitters has unveiled a new store concept designed to evolve with how Gen Z shops today, pairing flexible layouts with locally tailored merchandising strategies. The refreshed retail environment, now open in Houston, TX, and soon in Glendale, CA, features a brighter, more modern design focused on discovery, personalization, and community connection. Each location reflects local shopping behaviors and trends, aligning with Gen Z’s preference for experiential, in-person shopping, with 72% of the demographic reportedly frequenting malls.
The updated format includes expanded assortments of top-selling UO labels like BDG denim, Out From Under, and Standard Cloth, alongside curated edits in beauty, accessories, and men’s apparel. Stores feature modular fixtures that can quickly adapt to seasonal trends, plus larger, lighter fitting rooms for an improved experience. In Houston, the focus is on dresses and accessories, while Glendale spotlights an expanded men’s collection. Urban Outfitters plans to open a third location in Bethesda, MD, by the end of 2025 and seven more across the U.S. in 2026, marking a key step in the brand’s strategy to stay culturally relevant and deeply connected to its Gen Z audience.
