What is Dye-Sub Printing for Fabric?
By definition, dye-sublimation printing is a printing technique that uses heat to embed dye onto fabric. This process allows graphics to be soft, flexible, foldable, and machine washable while maintaining bright vibrant color. Dye-sublimation fabric printing is used for a variety of products and in many everyday examples. From backlit SEG, freestanding displays, and trade show graphics, sublimated fabric prints have a variety of applications.
” One of the greatest benefits of dye-sublimation printing is the permanence of the image. On fabric, we can print an image for an SEG frame and remove the image for washing in a standard washing machine if the graphic is ever soiled. The ability to do this saves on reprinting and achieves a long lasting graphic for display.“

What to Expect from Dye Sublimation Printing:
1. Soft and Smooth
Ink is heat-set into smooth, woven fabric for a soft look and feel. Some materials have a more plastic or vinyl texture that results in a shiny plastic-looking graphic. Using woven fabric better absorbs ink for a velvety matte appearance. The fabric stretches drum-tight into hardware eliminating wrinkles or bagginess.
2. Never Crunchy or Cracked
Ink is embedded into the fabric it won’t break when stretched or folded. We’ve all had a t-shirt where the design cracks where it’s been stretched or starts to flake off after several washes. This can happen with screen printed or other types of clothing printing where the ink sets on top of the fabric. Dye sublimation prints are like your favorite t-shirt that is comfortable to wear and the design looks bright and new wash after wash.
3. Folds Down Small to Go Big
With the ink being part of the fabric it flows freely from being folded for shipping, to displayed, and folded again to be stored for future use. Folding allows huge dye sub print, 10ft high x 20, 30 or 40ft wide… to go anywhere in a smaller inexpensive box for shipping than other printed materials. The durable print doesn’t require delicate handling making large prints as easy to hang in SEG Frame hardware as making a bed. Fabrics are easy to remove and switch, wash if needed, fold and reuse.
