Let’s be honest, most medical offices are usually bland and lacking personality, creating a space that’s not exactly the most inviting. But Ernstberger Orthodontics wanted to break the mold with their new location in Southern Indiana. For their large, open-concept treatment room, they chose a custom wall covering mural to create a fun and engaging atmosphere, far from the typical clinical feel. The calming forest scene spanning the 59-foot wall helps patients feel more relaxed during their visit — an important feature in an environment where anxiety is often high.

With a slide built into the office design, it was clear they wanted to create a space where patients, especially younger ones, could relax. The soothing greens of the forest, combined with the sun’s rays beaming through the foliage, creates a calming atmosphere. The wall covering isn’t just decor, it is an important part of the patient experience and overall interior design. The mural transformed the office into a more inviting environment, one where people look forward to going to — or at least don’t dread it as much.

Designing the Perfect Wall Mural

The idea of a forest mural came from the client’s desire to avoid the all-too-common uninspiring medical office design. Ernstberger Orthodontics wanted their office to be a place where patients could feel at ease, so they opted for a mural that reflects the natural world, bringing a breath of fresh air into the room.

For this project, we chose DreamScape Matte Type II vinyl wall covering, a high-performance material well suited for brightly-lit environments. Its matte finish reduces glare and yields a sharper print, ensuring that the forest scene is as crisp and lifelike as possible. This Type II commercial wall covering contains 11% post-consumer recycled content, making it sustainable and also durable, which is important for high-traffic areas like this. The wallpaper was installed with wallpaper paste, using double-cut seams to give the wall a seamless, professional look across the 15 panels that make up the panoramic mural.

The Benefits of DreamScape Wall Coverings

The versatility, sustainability and durability of DreamScape wall coverings make them a perfect fit for commercial projects. With more than 30 different textures and special effects options, you can find the ideal solution for your unique wall. “DreamScape materials have been our top choice for their unmatched quality and reliability, far surpassing others in their class. Our clients love the variety of textures for a wide range of applications to find the perfect material for their project,” says Cam Wiegand from 40 VISUALS.

Custom wall coverings like this one create a more welcoming space and also serve as an extension of the brand. In this case, Ernstberger Orthodontics’ forest mural reflects their commitment to making orthodontic care a more approachable and enjoyable experience. Along with custom office signage, a well-designed medical office wall covering can completely change the feel of the office, making it a place where patients feel calm, comfortable and even excited to visit.

Whether you’re designing a medical office or any other commercial space, wall covering ideas like these can completely change the atmosphere. Ernstberger Orthodontics proves that with the right vision, even a medical office can be a place that’s both functional and inviting.
