What You Need to Know
Audible opened Audible Story House on May 1 at 260 Bowery in New York City, a free pop-up listening lounge running through May 31. The 6,000-square-foot space is built around physical “Story Tiles,” which are tactile representations of audiobooks that let you browse more than 300 titles across genres like romance, true crime and wellness, just like flipping through shelves at a bookstore. You can take a Story Tile to a listening station for out-loud playback or tap it on your phone to stream directly through the Audible app. Six distinct listening spaces span the three-floor building, including a Dolby Atmos Lounge with immersive sound and a Listening Bar where “Story Tenders” help you find your next listen.
Throughout May, Audible Story House hosts dozens of live events including author panels, creator meetups, live music from Sofar Sounds and a Harry Potter-themed trivia night. The space also features a café from Brooklyn-based Land to Sea and a studio showcasing Audible’s immersion reading feature, which syncs audiobook narration with Kindle eBook text. The space is open Wednesdays through Sundays from 11 AM to 7 PM, and admission is free.
